1969 Chevrolet Chevelle L72 427/425HP COPO 9562
In 1969, several dealers took advantage of the Central Office Producion Orders (COPO) to receive some impressive muscle cars. The Chevelle was among the Corvette and Camaro which got the potent 427 this way
Built on standard Chevelle platforms, the car had Malubu interior and normal badges because it was not based on the SS model. Instead it was a no-frills package that included several manditory performance options
The COPO 9562 included a heavy duty suspension, heavy duty radiator, 12-bolt rear limited slip differential, F70x15 ‘white letter’ tires, bucket seats, and AM push button radio. Additionally, customers were forced to buy the L72 engine and powered from disc brakes.
Customers could order either the Rock Crusher 4-speed Manual or a strengthened Turbo Hydra-matic.

At their 2008 Scottsdale, Arizona sale, Barrett-Jackson auctioned this car for $140,000 USD. The description was “1 of 3 Canadian COPO cars that are accounted for. This one has full documentation including Build Sheet, Protect-O-Plate and confirmation from dealership regarding the special high-performance equipment. It has been featured in 3 major magazines. This COPO is a Chevy Fest Gold Spinner Concours Award winner. It is matching numbers complete with “CX” Code HD Turbo 400 transmission and G80 posi-traction rear end. The car is Frost Green with green interior. It has a bench seat, a 427/425hp engine and automatic transmission. Originally ordered with Super Sport wheels. It has been driven 30 miles since restoration.”
