Light the World videos and Giving Machines videos for 2023

September 2024 · 3 minute read

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has created eight short videos this Christmas as part of the Light the World initiative, “Let Your Light Shine.”

The videos can be found on the Come Unto Christ YouTube channel, are available for download at LighttheWorld.org and are being shared all this month on official Church social media accounts.

The videos tell the story of how seemingly simple acts of kindness bless other people’s lives as they go about their days. The words, “Someone needs your light,” appear on the screen.

Other ideas to share light are in this year’s list of 50 ideas to share light for #LightTheWorld 2023.

Other #LightTheWorld videos

During one 30-minute period on Nov. 27, the iconic digital billboards in Times Square in New York City featured images of stars, angels, shepherds, the Nativity, and Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus and directed people to LightTheWorld.org.

The video, released on Dec. 1 and titled, “A Silent Night Surprise in Times Square,” reminds all that Jesus is “the light of the world.”

A Light the World playlist on the Church’s YouTube channel features videos from previous years’ initiatives and other Christmas messages. Another YouTube playlist from the Church is titled, #LightTheWorld Social Sing and Serve.

In 2022, the Church News also compiled a collection of seven Light the World videos to watch for the Christmas season.

2023 Giving Machines videos

The Church is telling the story of where Giving Machines donations go — and how they help people in need around the world — through a series of videos called, “A Giving Machine Story.”

These videos were filmed in Mexico, Jordan, Ukraine and Kenya and show how children, families and individuals were blessed by the donations of chickens, goats, seeds, mentorships, tuition fees and other donations.

They can be viewed at GivingMachine.org or on the Church’s Come Unto Christ YouTube channel and have been shared in November and December on the Church’s social media accounts.

Bonus Giving Machine and Light the World videos from BYUtv

Studio C, a comedy show from BYUtv, put together a skit about Giving Machines on a recent episode. In it, Garet and Kiri look to purchase something from a Giving Machine but Dalton tries to sell them chickens and other items he has hidden in his coat.

Other BYUtv shows also featured the Light the World campaign and ways to Light the World on recent episodes of Relative Race, The Fixers, The Wizard of Paws, Random Acts, Artful and Making Good.
