ELK RIDGE, Utah County — One man was killed in a home explosion in southern Utah County on Friday.

The incident happened near 300 Elk Ridge Drive, close to the Gladstan Golf Course, just before 4 p.m.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office said a 19-year-old man, identified Saturday as Eric Ammon Cheney, was found dead in the home’s garage.

“I had just stepped into my home and I heard this great big explosion it rocked my home and I thought did a plane come down or what bomb went off in our neighborhood so I ran outside I only my socks on ran to the street and looked up and I could tell something wasn’t right,” said neighbor Julie Cloward.

No cause for the explosion has been released, but Utah County investigators believe it was an accident.

“When you have something like this you want to make sure that everyone in the surrounding area is safe, that there’s no other immediate danger there,” said UCSO Sgt. Spencer Cannon. “When you have the explosion itself there’s debris everywhere, so you have to be careful as you work your way through that.”
