Dej Loaf is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. She’s best known for the Gold-certified single “Try Me” which peaked at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100. Dej Loaf was born DeJa Monet Trimble on April 8, 1991, in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised in the Fairview Housing projects on the Eastside. Her father was tragically killed when she was only 4-year old. She has two brothers, including Desa. Dej attended Southeastern High School, where she played junior varsity basketball. Dej Loaf grew up listening to artists like E-40, Tupac, Mary J. Blige and Anita Baker. She began penning her own lyrics at age 9. Her 18-tracked debut mixtape, Just Do It, was released in February 2012. The tape’s popularity led to a record deal with SAYITAINTTONE’s indie label IBGM (I Been Gettin’ Money). Dej’s DDS-produced single “Try Me” was released in July 2014. It peaked at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the official music video has been viewed more than 65 million times Rappers Wiz Khalifa and The L.O.X. dropped their own versions with guest verses. The track also caught the attention of Canadian hip-hop artist Drake who posted lyrics from the song to his Instagram.
Dej Loaf signed to Columbia Records in October 2014, her first major record deal. She followed up with a second mixtape, Sell Sole, later that month. The tape featured Birdman and Young Thug on the track “Blood”. Dej was featured on the single “Detroit vs. Everybody” from the Eminem‘s compilation album Shady XV (2014). In 2015, she collaborated with Lil Wayne on a remix of “Me U & Hennessy”. Dej Loaf’s debut EP, And See That’s the Thing, was released by Columbia in July 2015. It peaked at #47 on the Billboard 200 and #6 on the Top Rap Albums chart. The project featured vocals from rappers Big Sean and Future. Dej was named to the 2015 XXL Freshman class alongside Fetty Wap, Kidd Kidd, Shy Glizzy, Vince Staples and a few others. Her third mixtape, All Jokes Aside, was released in April 2016. She collaborated with R&B singer Jacquees on the tape F#ck A Friend Zone (2017). Her 2017 single “No Fear” will be included on her upcoming studio album Liberated.
